Ty Kilgore here. I just wanted to answer a couple questions about our link strategy and also how we at Fluid Advertising stay on top of the Google algorithm and best practices with Google.
First I want to talk about our link strategy. One of the things that we factor in to our link strategy is what does your current link portfolio look like? The search engines have been very clear. They want to make sure that everyone has a natural backlinking portfolio. They have been harping again and again that you create great content and people will naturally link to it. These are some of the questions we ask ourselves when it comes to what type of links we need to build. What does your current link portfolio looks like. Do you have a lot of links already or do you have none? What type of links do you have? Where are you obtaining them? One of the other things is what is your current competition link portfolio or link profile look like? Where are they beating you and where can we make up ground? That really helps us know what type of links we need to build and what type of links we then need to attract. So those are two very important distinctions. Building links are going online and being able to actually submit things and being able to help you gain links either through your process of submissions or through a relationship. The other way is attracting links meaning that you are creating great content and people are already lining to you because it is great content. How are we going to move the needle? That is really the question that it comes down to when we determine what our link portfolio is going to look like. One of the things that we pride ourselves on here at Fluid Advertising is that we will deliver to you a link building strategy document that provides you with detailed information to answer each one of these questions. We do not just go out and say this is the package you bought so this is the type of links you will get. That doesn’t work. The way that search engines are now we need to make sure we’re giving them every indication they need to help them see the value that you are providing.
So, talking about search engines and about Google, how do we keep up with Google’s best practices? In essence or in a nutshell it’s job security. This is what we do. It’s kind of like asking a doctor how they keep up on best practices or methods or procedures. It is engrained in what they do. They are constantly being educated they are constantly being trained on new procedures, new equipment, new drugs which is very similar for SEO’s. Basically, how do we keep up with best practices? We go to conferences, we have been in the thick of it; this is our 9-5, or 8-5, this is what we do every day. We also read blogs. The SEO world, the digital marketing world is an interesting one because a lot of people are very free and open about what they do and how they do it. That then also allows people to expand on that and also give them their opinions where they might differ and what they have seen be successful compared to another. There are very many competing views out there when it comes to how to do this job. What we want to try to do is have figured out from experience what will work and what won’t. We pride ourselves on keeping up with the search engines algorithm updates mainly through reading blogs and also the search engines are very open and will tell us when an algorithm update has come out. Talking about two of the more famous or more important ones that have come out recently Panda really targeted sites that had poor quality content or sites that were manipulating that content just to rank in the search engines or sites that were doing a bad job of actually helping the end user. They were writing content simply for the search engines and not for the end user. Penguin was also where people were buying links; they were spamming the search engines in order to rank higher for those particular search queries that were important or the ones that were bringing business services to them. So what we tried to do is make sure that we give you what is called a natural backlinking portfolio. That will help you not only make sure that you’re not ever in a problem when it comes to an algorithm update but that you are ok with going forward. Having been in the industry for a while we have been able to actually help websites recover from these algorithm updates. What we have been able to do in each situation was to really dive into links, see where they were having problems, what they needed to change and then from there give our best recommendation. We have definitely have dealt with this before and it is something that we will see again but we try to pride ourselves that on any site that we work on that it is never an issue. Hopefully this answers your question. If you have more questions, please let us know and reach out to us here at Fluid Advertising.
